Weight-185.4 lbs (the gym scale--I'm up about 2/3 a pound)
I also weighed myself on my new home scale too. I wanted to see how much the difference was going to be. The home scale weighs 186.9 lbs (at least I know how it compares to the gym scale now). I think once I hit the 170's I'll switch to weighing in at home......but maybe not! LOL!!
Abs-37" (down 1/2")
Sucked In Abs-34" (up 1/4")
Chest-42.5" (up 1/4")
R arm-11.75"and 15 7/8" (no change and up 1/8")
L arm-11.75 and 15.5" (no change and down 1/4")
R leg-22.75" (no change)
L leg-22.75" (no change)
Pannus-44" (no change)
There you have it, today's numbers. The full monty. I was disappointed in myself, as I said earlier, but that doesn't make things change. What it does do though is motivate me. For the past two days, I'm moving forward.
I'm a true testiment to "Fall Down 7 Times, Get Up 8".....heck it's more like Fall Down 145 Times, Get Up 146! :P~~~

Reality Check
Hello!
I hope everyone is having an amazing day! It was absolutely beautiful in Phoenix today! I wish you could have all been here! I think it was in the mid-upper 70's. I rode my bike after going to the gym because I just wanted to be outside some. Wow it was nice! (Don't mean to rub it in to all of you snowbound folks...honest!)
I checked my weight and measurements this morning. For the first time since I started my weight loss journey I actually gained weight. I gained about 2/3 of a pound. I know why and I know that I have 100% ownership of that. I can't not exercise for 3 days and eat too much (even when it's YOAD food). It's that simple. I'm not worried but I was saddened and disappointed in myself.
Yesterday my YOU turn was in full swing and I burned 668 calories at the gym. I had a good caloric intake and all was well. Today I had a great 60 minute workout and did fine with food too. I'm on track and moving forward. I'm not worried, I'm optimistic and encouraged. I have the keys to my own weight loss, its just up to me to open the door.
OK--enough of that drivel. LOL! Here's a GOOD story now. Yesterday I put on a pair of jeans and went to the store. While I was there, I realized that they weren't my jeans and thought, hmmmm...that's weird. Later on, I was picking up my DD's from school and my middle DD said "Mom!! Why are you wearing my jeans??" How cool is that?! For the first time in my life, I actually weigh the same or less as my two oldest DD's.
I also have retired as "the fat sister" in my family. It's a title that I am very happy to give up. I feel bad that anyone has to be "the fat sister", but for now I'm just going to be happy it's not me. The next step is to get my sister on this YOAD journey with me. I've been working on her little by little, planting the seeds. I'm hoping they'll start to blossom soon. My oldest sister lives a very healthy lifestyle and she read YOAD after I recommended it to her. She's been living it as long as I have. My youngest sister doesn't have a weight problem. Now it's just me and one of my older sisters that need to get the weight off. Not much longer and there will only be ONE of us that's overweight!
Gee....can you tell I'm sharing some feelings here?? LOL! Well heck, I guess I'll stop rambling for now.
Hugs from AZ,
Shannon
P.S. I have a new song for everyone to listen to. It's a bit of a tear jerker. It's called "You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins. It's so, so true!

Roller Coaster Ride
It's funny how my weight loss journey is such a roller coaster ride. At some parts you are just chugging along so well, there's nothing that derails you. At other points you get side tracked often, overindulge in the "correct food" by emotional eating, lack of motivation or just plain boredom. In the old days, prior to reading the YOAD book, those side tracks would lead to weight gain and the end of the journey. The "diet" would be over and I'd just be who I was, no more guilt about my weight, no more feeling bad about my food choices and no more being self conscious every moment about what I looked like.
Last night I had a revelation! This isn't the old days. It's time to YOU turn it around and get on track. I'm not going backwards, I'm not quitting anything, I'm not a failure! I merely had a couple of days over calories--hardly the end of the world. Heck, I didn't even have anything "bad" to eat--it was just too much of it. Anywhere from 200-500 calories too much of it (4 days of the last 7). A couple of those days I offset that intake though with an extra vigorous workout or even a second workout at the gym. Needless to say, all is far from being lost. It's actually a pretty good feeling.
It's OK to know that everything doesn't go perfect all the time and you can still be on a weight loss journey. It's OK to eat above calories sometimes. It's OK not to be perfect. Heck, no one is! (Believe me this is actually pretty significant stuff for me to say--I am a true perfectionist). I am proud that I can reflect on this now and move forward NOW. I am happy that I can make changes on the inside, even if they aren't always seen on the outside.
With weight loss, comes tremendous change. It's actually the least talked about part of losing weight. For those of us that have always been heavy, it's a very scary thing to think of being a "normal weight". There are so many things that we will have to learn to handle--people flirting, being more aware of our surroundings, paying attention to the signals we're sending out, being a part of the "invisible crowd" (words borrowed from my friend Elizabeth), how we carry ourselves, building our self esteem and so much more. Lots and LOTS of change. Most of it is exciting though--I'm actually really starting to touch on this stuff now since I'm in a size 14. I'm getting closer to "normal size" and am starting to look more like the "average woman" instead of the "fat lady" or "chubby girl". A whole new set of rules are coming my way and I'll be spending the next few months (or even year or so) learning them. I can say I'm a little scared of these rules but I can also say I'm really excited at the idea of living by a set of rules I've never been a part of before. It will be an interesting ride....that's for SURE!
Hugs for today,
Shannon

Weekly Weight & Measurements 2/18/07
Weight-184.6 lbs
Abs-37.5" (no change)
Sucked In Abs-33.75" (down 1/4")
Chest-42.25" (no change)
Neck-15" (no change)
R arm-11.75"/15.5" (no change and down 1/2")
L arm-11.75"/15.75" (no change and up 1/4")
R leg-22.5" (no change)
L leg-22.75" (down 1/4")
Pannus-44" (down 1/2")
These aren't staggering numbers by any means, BUT they are in the right direction. I'm just going to keep moving forward, keep exercising, keep logging in my nutrition and I will continue to create my own success.
My numbers this week would have been better but I sabotaged myself with chocolate and portion issues. I'm aware of it though and have already corrected it. My DH also threw away the rest of the chocolate too, so the temptation is gone. :-)
I'm just going to keep on chuggin' along. :-) I've already been to the gym for my 550 calorie burn off. I'm going to take the girls to a healthy lunch and to the movies today, since their home from school. It's going to be a great day!

The Gym, Cookies and More
I'm just finishing Day 7 of the latest YOAD 21 Day Challenge. I'm feeling pretty darn good too. I'm a bit tired today because I did double gym duty. This morning I did the 60 minute Strictly Strengthening class with my DH and I went back tonight for another 40 minutes (and 519 calories) on the Cybex. My eating was a bit wacky this afternoon so I thought I better push myself a bit and go back to burn some more calories. I'm glad I did but I am definitely tired.
Yesterday we spent about 3 hours sorting, lifting, loading, carrying and just plain lugging cases of Girl Scout cookies. Wow! I have a few muscles in my arms today that are saying "HEY! What the heck did you do to us?!". LOL! It was fun to do, we have done it every year for about 7 or 8 years now. Once we got the huge load sorted for about 50 different troops we were able to sort out our own troops and bring them home. Then we got to sort *those* cookies out by each girl that sold them. Finally, once they were all sorted we could start distributing them to the girls in our troop. SO, now I have about 50 or so cases left for our first cookie booths. I'm not too worried about the temptation of them because I honestly don't want to eat them. (We'll see if that lasts throughout the sale or not...LOL).
We spent most of the afternoon yesterday delivering cookies to folks in the neighborhood. They were excited to see that cookies were in. Everyone sure seems to love Girl Scouts at cookie time! ;-)
Tomorrow is weight & measurement day. I'll be sure to post the stats when I have them. I'm hoping for a nice result. I've been doing great with exercise and I've stayed within my calorie range 6 of the last 7 days. The day that I went out of calorie range, I exercised extra hard to compensate for the difference. We'll see what happens.
:-)
Have a super day!

21 Day Challenge started on 2-11-08
One more thing!
I stared another 21 day challenge with my realage group (aka YOAD message board). I'm on day 2. Each of us are making up our own challenge and encouraging one another to finish it. Some of them are as simple as walking 30 minutes a day, no excuses, to much more extreme challenges.
My personal challenge is:
1. A minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.
2. A minimum of 40 minutes of exercise daily. (Although I will be aiming for 45)
3. Tracking my daily nutritional intake (diet journal) on Spark People daily.
I am sure I can rise to the challenge!! So far the first two days have gone SUPER!
Want to join me?? Think of a way to challenge yourself and dive in!!
WE CAN DO THIS!

It's a GOOD day!
Hi!
It's a good day today! I am so motivated and I LOVE IT!! I haven't felt like this in awhile and I'm really relishing in it. I really think it's been a couple of months since I felt THIS good and THIS pumped! I am definitely going to keep up this level of exercise, nutritional journaling and water intake (aka commitment). It's really a winning combination!
I went to the gym this morning for my weekly Tuesday 50/50 class (50% aerobics and 50% strength training). It was a good class. I know I'll be sore tomorrow. I couldn't resist stepping on the scale before showering and I actually dropped almost 2 more pounds!! I'm not going to count that as official or anything, it was just fun to see. I actually have to "officially" weigh in on Thursday as that's the end of one of the challenges I'm doing on Spark People. I'm in a "Valentine's Day Challenge" and that's the final weigh in for it. I'm curious to see what the scale will say. :-)
By the way, I just joined an "Easter Challenge" and I'm already in the "Biggest Loser Challenge" too. I really like the challenges, they push me more. In fact, if it weren't for the BLC and the VC, I don't think I would have been to the point yet to really get a solid second wind going. I'm grateful for that. :-)
Lots of stuff going on in my life right now. The GS cookie sale boothing starts next weekend, my oldest DD has her college open house next Friday up in Flagstaff, my middle DD is going to start her Gold Award training (for GS) on Thursday, kids are doing sports/activities at school, our scout troop is going into overdrive for money earning for our summer trip and we are working on scholarships for the oldest DD daily. Busy, busy, busy! It's going to be this way for the next couple of months so this is a perfect time to buckle down with the weight loss.
I'm feeling good. I'm focused. I'm EXCITED!!!
Have a GREAT day!!

Weekly Weight & Measurements 2/11/08
Weight-185 pounds (That's 70 pounds GONE FOREVER!!!)
Abs-37.5" (no change)
Sucked In Abs-34" (no change)
Chest-42.25" (no change)
Neck-15" (no change)
R arm-11.75"/16.25" (down 1/8" and up 1/4")
L arm-11.75"/15.5" (down 1/8" and no change)
R thigh-22.5 (up 1/2")
L thigh-23 (no change)
Pannus-44.5" (no change)
I took my measurements this morning at 7:33 AM. I was a little concerned thinking..."Uh oh, maybe the scale didn't move this week since the measurements are pretty stagnate". Then I went to the gym to get on the scale. TA DA!! FINALLY, I have broken through the 70 pound mark! YIPEE!! Going back to basics and restarting my nutrition journal has been KEY! I'm really glad I did it. I wasn't realizing how many calories were going in my fuel tank. Even though they were "good foods" and "YOAD foods", there was still just to much of them. I'm excited to see what the future holds now!!
I actually went back and looked at my weight loss stats. I realized that my "good" weight loss stopped shortly after I stopped my nutrition journal. I know that's not a coincidence. I decided it's time to buckle back down to get that scale to move. I've been going in the right direction and have been moving towards this for a few weeks now, so I'm glad I'm finally here. I started journaling again on Thursday and it's going well. The first two days I was above my calorie range (1200-1550) but the next two days I was right in the ball park. It feels GREAT too!
I can't believe that I've lost 70 pounds!! That's just so wild! It feels good and it's a bit surreal! I am getting used to me being at this weight and am enjoying the additional energy, stamina, decreased health issues and endurance I have now. I didn't realize how much I didn't have when I was heavier. What a blessing this weight loss has been...in SO many ways!! :-)
On that happy note, I'm off to SP to add my breakfast and my exercise to my nutrition and fitness trackers.
Hugs from AZ,
Shannon

Hi there!
Hi there!
TGIF everyone. It's been a relatively quiet day today. I went shopping and to lunch with my Mom & sisters. We went to Applebee's and I had the Confetti Chicken from the Weight Watcher menu. I was sure to go with all veggies and no rice pilaf though. YUM, it's delicious!
I'm sore from yesterday, but not as sore as I thought I was going to be. I mostly can feel my lats (the sides of my torso under my arms), my biceps and my chest. I think tonight I will avoid doing any lifting stuff and I'll just do cardio. I've already ridden my bike a bit today but I want to do much more than that, although I am not planning on working near as hard as yesterday--that was a bit of overkill! LOL!
I'm not sure what the evening plans are....but maybe we'll do something fun. Are there any good movies out?? Hmmmm....I'm going to go check that out. Gym, dinner & movies? Sounds like a good evening.
I'll check in later on this weekend.
Hugs from AZ,
Shannon

Wow--kicked some exercise BUTT today!
Hi!
It's been an amazing exercise day today. Holy moly! This morning I started with a 60 minute Strictly Strengthening class at the gym. It was a GOOD one!! It kicked MY butt! Later today I rode my bike for about 35 minutes. I went to the gym again this afternoon for another 45 minutes and 555 calories THEN I went on a mile walk with my DH and the dog. WHEW!! How awesome is THAT?! I feel great but I feel TIRED. LOL!
I started tracking my diet again today too. I want to make sure my calorie intake is in the right range daily. My weight loss was on a much better and more consistent track when I was writing everything down that I was eating. I want to see if that will help start a surge forward again. I no longer want to be on this plateau and I'm willing to put in the effort to get over it.
I'm curious to see if that's going to make a difference. I know that the more effort I put into this, the more I will get back out of it. I'm ready. I want to move forward. I'm curious to see if I'm going to see a difference on Monday with my weight and measurements. I really am.
I am looking forward to a good, restful nights sleep. I'm hoping the busy day of exercise will get me there. :-)

Face Lift for the Blog! LOL!
Changed my blog template today. I was SO tired of the pepto bismol pink. I think this is a better reflection of me. Unfortunately I'm not super 'techy' so I don't know how to make lots of fancy things along the borders. Sorry....but at least we get to look at earthy tones now instead of hot pink!
LOL!

Weekly Weight and Measurements as of 2/4/08
Weight-186.1 pounds (no change)
I was a little surprized by this as I've really stepped it up with my exercise this week. However, I'm not going to be discouraged. I think I'll see some good results next Monday if I keep up this same level of exercise. I also think I may start tracking my food intake on Spark People again. I need to be aware of the calories I'm putting in. We'll see how this week goes and if there's not a change, I will start tracking again (if I don't decide to do it sooner than that anyway).
Abs-37.5" (no change)
Sucked In Abs-34" (no change)
Chest-42.25" (down 0.25")
Neck-15" (down 0.25")
R arm-12" and 16" (up 0.25" both parts)
L arm-11 7/8" and 15.5" (up 1/8 th" and down 0.25")
R thigh-22" (down 0.75")
L thigh-23 (no change)
Pannus-44.5" (no change)
Looks like about a net of 0.75" down, so that part is good. I'm just planning to keep moving forward, no looking back. The only way I can get to my goals are to exercise and eat right the YOAD way. I'm still doing both those things and don't plan on ever going back to "the old ways" ever again. Even at my current weight I feel SO much better than I used to! Heck, I didn't even realize how badly I felt until I was thinner. I thought I was fine before, but I wasn't. That thought alone is a heck of a motivator for me.
Today is day 17 of our 21 day challenge. I feel good! I'm happy about ME! :-)
Be sure to get moving today!! Make good choices and be proud of who you are!

Super Bowl was AMAZING!!
Before posting my weekly weight and measurements from yesterday, I had to post about the Super Bowl. It was AMAZING!!! We had so much fun! The buzz in the stadium was so fun. You could just feel the energy vibe in there!! (For those that don't know, our GS troop's parents have been volunteering to staff a concession stand at the Cardinals Stadium all year. We worked all the Cardinals games, the Fiesta Bowl and the Super Bowl). I had my DH take a pic of me when I got home. That's me up there ^^^ in my "uniform". It's not a beauty shot by any means, as I'd been on my feet for 18 hours but I wanted a picture anyway. ;-)
It was quite star studded too! It was pretty strange serving ice cream and soda to folks like Alice Cooper, Pam Anderson and John Travolta! LOL! Heck, even the luxury boxes couldn't fit the number of celebs that were there in them. We saw even more folks just walking around-Payton Manning, Tiki Barber, The Burger King King (LOL---that was funny!!) and lots of players families. None of us were very star struck but it was fun seeing them. :-)
The game itself was AMAZING too! We were too busy to watch much of it but I watched it yesterday via TiVo. I got to see most of the last 3 minutes live but didn't get to see the lead up to it. What a GAME!! I don't recall a Super Bowl being that close or that good in AGES!! It was great to see an actual game of it vs. a blow out. Typically the NFC/AFC championship games are more exciting than the Super Bowl, but not this year!
I thought the halftime show was good too. Initially I thought Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were a terrible choice, but I think they did a great job!! He was pretty cool to have in town during the week too. He was a true gentleman and far from the typical superstar behavior (even though he's a seasoned entertainment veteran).
I must say that I think AZ did an awesome job this past week! What a terrific host state we turned out to be! Lots of work but even more fun! It definitely was a memorable week.
I heard that we're going to try and vy for another game in 4 years. That sounds great! Heck, we'd be a well oiled machine by then!
Our troop made a good amount of money working the game (tips and such) and it will really help us toward our goal (a 10 day trip to London, Paris & Barcelona this summer). We didn't make a ton but we made about double of our usual amount. We are about 1/3 to 1/2 to the total money we need so far for the trip and we haven't even started seeing the benefits of the cookie sale yet (it just started). Keep your fingers crossed and we WILL get there! ;-)
Need any cookies?? LOL! JK!
